SEA PEARLS AND ACROBATS...OH MY

Our guide is fabulous and although we both felt a little on the tired side her enthusiasm for making our trip here memorable gave us the energy to do whatever…after a quick lunch in our room she took us to the South China Sea Pearl Museum where Professor “Pu” told us all about pearls in our own private viewing. After our lesson on sea pearls we were entertained with a pearl fashion show and oh my word the pearls were to die for….then it was time to enter the sales floor about the size of a small Wal-Mart with an area for the “good” pearls, the “better” pearls and the “best” pearls. We looked at them all but found our wallet only able to afford some of them. We learned how to determine if a pearl is real by rubbing them together and there should be some friction…fake or smooth pearls slide easily when rubbed together.

We were assigned a nice young lady to assist us and Mei was so helpful, she showed us some things we could not afford and then later would lead us to something similar that we could. We had a grand time and made 2special bracelets for the girls and Mel treated me to some lovely fresh water earrings and a double strand of freshwater pearls. After the pearl museum we ventured to one of the largest department stores. We detoured to the local KFC…and let’s just I am now a member of the “squatty potty club”…

The department store had 6 levels and we looked at the children’s clothes first and found both Emma and Ellie Lu some sweet little leather fisherman like sandals. I wanted to find an outfit, but most of them had silly little critters on them or something. We then looked at the women’s shoes and my oh my what lovely styles…BUT the sizes only went up to a 39 and I am a 42, so in this case you can look but not buy or wear…boo hoo!

We headed back to the hotel for a rest and then around 6:30 we met Lily and she took us for dinner. It was a nice buffet with nothing too outrageous and located in a very good spot for people watching. After filling our tummies I was absolutely just beat, but we still had the show to attend a bit later. The performance was “Dream Like Lijiang” and our seats were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed it the music was fabulous and it was a combination of acrobatics, dance and ballet…very entertaining and memorable.

Thoughts about Emma…I did not anticipate all the feelings being right here in Guilin would bring up for me. To think we could walk right around a corner and possibly see our daughter…to wonder has she been prepared for what lies ahead for her in the next few days…how could anyone prepare her? I have found myself with tears in my eyes several times since arriving…..so anxious for Monday to get here…

Ellie Lu update
I hear it on very good authority Aunt Sheshee that Ellie Lu is doing well and staying busy. She overheard a conversion between Ellie Lu and her cousins Jack and Jake thru the baby monitor…

Jack and Jake…”who brought you here?”
Ellie Lu “my Mommy”
Jack and Jake “where is your Mommy?”
Ellie Lu “in China”
Jack and Jake “why is your Mommy in China?”
Ellie Lu “I don’t know”…her favorite response to anything
