John David, Aunt Greenie can't sleep tonight! I am praying for all of you and wish I could be there to give you a HUGE hug before you go on your vacation to Aunt Gail's and Uncle Jerry's. You will have so much fun there while you're waiting for your sister to come home! Elizabeth will have the BEST BIG BROTHER ever! God has chosen you out of all the big boys in the world to be her favorite! I LOVE YOU! Mommy and Daddy: "For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Is. 55:12....Can't believe she's ready to come home! You were prepared for this day by an awesome God and HE chose the perfect parents for Elizabeth! Elizabeth: Aunt Greenie loves you and can't wait to see you and hold you!

Dave and Susan, this is the most precious adoption site I have ever had the good fortune to see. Susan, you have a way with words that is beyond description. Dave, you aren't too shabby yourself with that Mother's Day note from Elizabeth. I have a calendar reminder each day while you’re gone to look for changes as soon as I get to work. That will be my early morning ritual until I can see Elizabeth’s sweet face in person. John will make a GREAT big brother. I can tell by the way he is around Jada. You guys are blessed and Elizabeth is blessed to have you. Richard

Dave, Susan and John David, This precious little girl who is waiting for you in China has no idea how sweetly her Lord has smiled on her. He has given her an amazing mom, dad and big brother who will love her forever. I am so happy for you and my, how God has smiled on you three as well. Elizabeth is an angel. Dave and Susan, I know you are so aware of how very blessed you are with both of your beautiful children. I know God will carry you on angel's wings to your precious Elizabeth and know we will be praying for you the entire step of the way. This website is absolutely beautiful and Dave.......that letter made me cry. The talent you have in capturing an image is inspirational to my heart. Susan, your words always melt my heart. What a great couple you two make in the ability to bring such emotion and I feel so blessed with your friendship. I can't wait to see your daughter in your arms !!! I am so happy for you ! Susan and David, Was it two summers ago when I first met you streetside in front of my house? We were strangers then. Never realizing the paths that our lives would take. I've always felt that everything that happens is predestined. It happens for reasons we can never imagine. I am so lucky I was outside that day and that you stopped and asked me if those "girls" were mine. I wish you the most wonderful trip to get Elizabeth. You can't begin to know now but your heart will forever be changed by what you see in China. When asked by the people I met there last month why I have THREE daughters from China, I tell them...we are all family now. My girls and the people of China. My heart is there and soon yours will be too! Congratulations and I can't wait to see you when you return. Oh yeah.....great website! Love, Terri

Susan, David and John David, I can't tell you how happy I am for you all! My heart is so full of thoughts and prayers for your family as you start this amazing journey to begin a life with your new daughter and sister, Elizabeth. God is so awesome and his handiwork so clear in all of this. I can't help but feel his love for all of us when I think that the day Uncle Doug went home to Jesus was the same day that this precious little girl came in to the world. I love you all very much and can't wait to see the new addition to the family. Enjoy your time in China and we will pray for a speedy and safe return! Much Love, Emily & Jason

I was forwarded your website by Pam Hickman, who is also in the process of adopting a daughter from China with her husband Jerry. I think your site is beautifully put together. It is very appealing. I too, am in awe of a God who brings things together so completely. I can't help but get shivers that your daughter was born on the day of your father's death. How so like God! My oldest son was born exactly 14 days prior to the anniversary of my father's death, and I thanked him so much, that I felt like rejoicing on that date, rather than grieving. I look forward to following your journey these next few weeks. Thank you for sharing your experience so openly. Angie Roberts

I love the website; it is very exciting to be able to follow you on your long journey to get Elizabeth. The story of your Dad’s passing the same day she was born was astounding! What an AWESOME WONDERFUL GOD we have. And the Letter Dave wrote…very moving. You are all very blessed by God. Elizabeth is going to have wonderful parents and of course a wonderful big brother to take care of her. My prayers are with you all for a safe trip back. Along with other friends of mine whom you don’t know that are praying for you, and moved by your story. By the way…Love the glass-walled bathroom! HA! I have so enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts and prayers for your family and am now, myself, waiting anxiously for your return!! I passed this website on to several people that I work with, many of whom are now watching and waiting also. Again, I am just overwhelmed with how God said that he knows us from the second we are concieved. To know that God has known Elizabeth from the second she was concieved, that he knew the Chinese man that would find her, that he knew the adoption agency that she would placed under, that he knew that in this world of over 6 BILLION people - she would have you two as parents and John David for a brother just blows me away! When faced with these certainties - how can one doubt God's love and faithfulness?? WOW - You two just make my day! Lets just give a big high five to God! Hurry up and bring this gal home! I can't wait to be sitting in Aunt Sue's living room after eating Thanksgiving dinner, hearing all the Scott cousins in the basement playing ping-pong, watching John David and little Taylor playing on the floor, seeing dad and Uncle Wayne dressed up (not as hobo Santas since it is not yet Christmas - but rather, in the spirit of Thanksgiving fun, as deralic (sp?) turkeys or perhaps Pilgrims singing holiday tunes!!), and most of all seeing, with a tremendous feeling of happiness, my newest cousin Elizabeth snuggled up - safe in your arms! I hope you can feel the bear hug that I am trusting the world-wide-web to carry across the globe! I love yall! Emily

susan and david, just today john checked the website to see the status of your journey to elizabeth. how excited we are to learn you are traveling now and keeping us posted along your way! we enjoyed a visit from our jennifer and little brooke, along with our keith, in kingsport last weekend. other than a 7 hour drive from charleston for jenn and brooke because of brooke's first ever episode of vomiting and fever, it was a delightful time together. (there were lots of helping hands here when they arrived!) it will take jenn a while to forget that journey!! we are constantly reminded of God's precious and priceless gift of adoption to our family and will never take it lightly or for granted. we will pray for you along your way, with thanksgiving for God allowing our paths to cross. susan, we hope you heal quickly and that dave does not catch it as well. with love and caring, carolyn and john mccoy

Unfortunately, our adoption was cancelled, but due to the close bonds that were formed on the site, I've followed the journeys of 3 other couples- it's been amazing and I wanted to tell you your site is beautiful, and Elizabeth is so precious. I will remember you in my prayers along with all of those traveling to bring their children home. May Elizabeth come to you gently, and warm up to you quickly, and trust you enough to cry and scream if she needs to! All the best, Kristen Borde (Kris)

I am very much enjoying your journey. I sent ALL of my paperwork to Living Hope last week. So, hopefully in a little less than a year, I will be where you are! Wishing you luck on your journey and great happiness as you hold Elizabeth. Lynn (LNiel66@aol.com)

message from maw maw: faithfully interceding and missing my precious loved ones. Aunt Sue read me some of the comments and it was so encouraging and heart warming. I love you so dearly and am so looking forward to holding my new granddaughter and having my John David back with me. Please take care of yourself, Susan, and don't over-do.....(Aunt Sue is trying to convince me that I need a computer)...until then I'll dictate messages and await the joy of your arrival back home. Dear Dave , Susan, John and Elizabeth, It is hard to believe that we have known each other for only two years. We met you when we chose Dave as our wedding photographer. Even as we were planning our wedding we were planning the adoption of Claire. We chose Dave as our photographer because we loved his personality and his work is without a doubt the best we had ever seen. Who would have thought that two years later we would be celebrating chinese adoption together. You guys are such wonderful people and John and Elizabeth are so richly blessed. We could not pick better parents for any child! It would be impossible to watch this whole process and not realize that God had a plan for our friendship when we entered your studio in 2003. He knew that someday two angels named Elizabeth and Claire would have a common bond and friendship here in the USA. God stayed with them every minute and as your homepage says, he had a plan for their future. Sweet Baby Elizabeth, We love you and your family dearly! The Messerschmidts

Dave and Susan, the day that you will finally hold Elizabeth in your arms is almost here! We have been blessed to follow this journey along with you and we absolutely cannot wait until your precious angel is in your arms! John David, we look forward to seeing you play with your new little sister across the street - you'll have to teach her to jump on your trampoline really soon! God bless this new addition to your hearts and lives! Love, Joel, Donna & Eliza p.s. We remember how we were very faithful to post pictures and updates BEFORE we got Eliza! Somehow priorities change after you get that baby!! But we anxiously await seeing the photos of your union with your baby and the "getting to know you" days!

Sweet Elizabeth Lihan! You are dearly loved by your new parents and it has been a joy to follow their journey as they bring you to a new home in the United States! We look forward to meeting you as your parents introduce you to your new extended family!! We were excited that you have been named Elizabeth. Our daughter is Christen Elizabeth and she enjoys knowing that the name Elizabeth means "consecrated to God"!! It is our prayer that you will one day accept God and His Son, Jesus Christ, as your beloved Lord and Savior! May you know, without a doubt, that the Lord's hand has been upon your precious life!!! We look forward to meeting you with great anticipation!! joyfully, Larry, Melinda, Christy and Daniel Clapp

Wes and I are so happy to hear that this special day for you is only hours away. We have been praying for your safety, health, and spirit. We hope that we could come up some time over winter break and see your precious treasure, for that is truly what she is. Sue, you will make a wonderful mother. I know this to be true not only seeing you interact with John, but in the way that you supported me and helped me grow while I was the upstairs resident in your home. Dave too will make a wonderful tea partner and doll house builder! HEhe! We are so exstatic for your family. Amanda my cousin had her baby today, so this will make two new members that we will have to met. We will continue to pray for you all as well as Elizabeth. We pray that she will be healthy, adjust well, that God will touch her with his love throughout all the days of her life. I wished we lived closer to you all, so that she too could know Miss Tiffie. But I know God has a special plan for us all. Please let us know if there is anything we can do. We are so excited for you all!!!!! Miss Tiffie and Mister Wes

Susan adn Dave, Chills have swept over my body as I read your email on the day before getting Elizabeth. I, too, feel the sadness of her foster family as they have gotten attached to her for a year, but I am sure they also feel joy knowing what love she is about to experience coming into your family. I am so glad you feel better to truely enjoy this experience, even if part of it may be a blur because of the excitement, chaos, hustle, etc...but we know you have it all well documented with photos!!haha Good luck tomorrow, and can't wait to read your next email when you get her!!! Hi Dave & Sue, Last night we celebrated Adoption Day. The anniversary of the day that Danita's adoption became final. I took her flowers and we had a fun time going out to dinner and talking for long hours over desert. We pray that you will have wonderful adoption day dinners with Elizabeth for many many years to come. Our Love Always Kirk & Rachel

Each time I read your posts I get so excited for you and Elizabeth! I must admit though that I do not read without a tissue nearby! The picture of Elizabeth at her "finding spot" really poured the tears! I do also love the newspaper clipping! How exciting to have that for her! I am so happy that she is bonding to you! It won't be long before she will be clinging on mommy and John as much as she is daddy. I cannot wait until the time you all come home and we can love on her too! She is such a doll! Every picture of her is so adorable! If I were you, I would get a reserve panda just in case you need it! IT is so cute how she is so attached! We continue to pray for you and Elizabeth! By the way, I LOVE the picture of Marcus Vick on your post, but most of all the "I'm behind the Hokies" pants! HA! So cute! I want some for our baby! GO HOKIES!!! VT all the way!!! God bless you all, Angela, Sean, Ashton, and Kieron Bride

Dear David and Susan, We just want to tell all of your family and friends how our experience with John has been for the last two weeks. It is been great! He is the sweetest, most adorable, best-behaved child. We have taken him to Busch Gardens, church (several times), to the local kidsburg (a terrific park in Williamsburg), trick-or-treating, to playland with a new friend, and today we went to visit relatives of Aunt Gail's. He has been so polite--we are so proud of him. He has never cried the entire time he has been here and never had to be given a time-out. He has gone to bed every night at 8:00 and cheerfully gotten up between 7:00 and 8:00 every morning. He has eaten well (not too many sweets!) We have always loved him but since he has been here, our love for him has grown so much and we will miss him when he goes back home in a week. We are glad everything is going so well for you all in China and are keeping you in our prayers for a safe journey back to the states. Love, Gail and Jerry

Susan and Dave, We just got your postcard yesterday, it was so thoughtful of you to think of us while you are on your journey to get your daughter. I have really enjoyed reading your journal and Elizabeth is beautiful. I love her panda bear, Joseph has a little black bear that I gave him when we got home from Vietnam and he still goes just about everywhere with us. Let's try to get the boys together sometime soon after things have settled down at your house. Joseph asks often when he's going to see John again. I hope to see you Monday, have a safe trip. God Bless, Beverly Cox

Welcome Home David, Susan, John and Elizabeth!!! What fun it has been to follow your journey half way around the world! Amazing!!! Today, at church, we celebrated "Adoption Awareness" month! A parent had put together a video showing many of the children that have been adopted through the years by members in our church. What a blessing as we saw children from China, Korea, Russia, and Latvia! I was one of the lucky relatives that got to visit with Gail and Jerry and John David when they visited Richmond last week! Gail is right....John is the sweetest little guy, absolutely adorable!!! He told me all about himself and then gave me a piece of his trick-or-treat candy (orange Trident gum! Yummy!) I know he's going to love Elizabeth and be a wonderful big brother!!! Thanks for taking the time to share so much with so many......can't wait to see you all, much love, Larry, Melinda, Christy and Daniel Clapp "Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You!" psalm 63:3

hi susan and david! james found your web site and i've been overwhelmed by the pictures of your adoption. we are adopting a little girl too...her name is abigail. we hope to travel to China sometime in march (or before, of course). you took beautiful pictures at our wedding in kingsport in 1995 (James Hoy and Valena Manley). please join us in prayer for abigail. the waiting is so very difficult...i pray that all the hands and hearts that care for her will be grace-filled and overflowing with love. we, of course, will want you to photograph her. we've always wanted you to do another family portrait or baby portrait...your adoption only reaffirms that you are the perfect people for this precious gift and memory in our lives. my very best to your whole family as you settle in, un-pack, and enjoy life. many blessings, Valena Hoy

WOW. To see Lizzy come down that hall from the airplane was the most exhilirating experience since the birth of Taylor. To think God allows us to have these moments of pure joy are amazing. My note is to my sweet new cousin. I loved you the moment I looked into your eyes Lizzy. I too was blessed and given the gift of this amazing family through adoption and our family is nothing short of a precious gift from God. We may not have been born of the same DNA but the love and bond of this family run deeper than blood type, so I welcome you kindred spirit. I welcome you our sweet new addition and know that you are loved. Thank you for being who you are and know you have Taylor, Mary, Hannah, Ashlyn, Josh and your amazing brother to grow with. We will never let you be alone and your parents are diamonds in the rough. Little girl......welcome.....WE SO LOVE YOU. Great travel log. I got my daughter 1`/8/2002 in Wuhan, ccai group 335. I find it interesting that not much looks changed in almost 4 years. Hong Kong is to die for. My 4 year old and good friends from our group went back to China to adopt their 2nd. We got to visit Hong Kong and then on to Chongqing, at very hilly, hot and humid spot of 31 million. We love China and can not wait to go again. Was much more fun to shop and sightsee when you already have your child. Great web page. Did you get to tour the orphanage? My daughter was the only one of 13 from Wuhan Welfare Center, we were permitted to tour it. I traveled alone to pick up Hannah and would not recommend it for the 1st but after going again I would go alone with my now 5 year old. She is a great traveler and companion. You mention the tri cities, What cities? Thanks for sharing your journey. How is she doing with the potty. Mine was done with diapers at 2. Bobbi Humphreys Herrick Arvada, Colorado

Congratulations to your family. Your website and photos are beautiful. My husband and I have two sons and are paperchasing right now for a little girl. The details about Susan's Dad really touched my heart because I lost my mom last year at the young age of 60 to Cancer. I would love to have her here with me during this time.

I have truly enjoyed reading your site!! We have a 6/27 LID with CCAI, and our anxiously awaiting our referral for our Elizabeth!! I've wiped several tears from my eyes while reading your site. My mom passed away 13 days after my youngest son was born, and Elizabeth is being named after her, so the story about your dad really hit home.Your Elizabeth is SOOOOO adorable! I trust God's timing, but certainly hope we will get our referral soon:) God bless you, Cindy Woodall

I found your adoption site in a guestbook for another traveller on this journey. I am grammy to be. My daughter and son-in-law are adopting from Mexico. They are not a part of a group, so our support system during this time of waiting is pretty small. I was surfing to find others on the same journey and I found your story. I want to take time to wish you a speedy happy adoption adventure, for you and your little one. I would love to hear from you and be able to follow your celebration if you would care to write. I already signed this book once tonight but I visited the page about the day you lost your dad and got your litle girls name and picture and well..the Kleenex was close by...good thing. so I ahve returned to tell you that our families paths are very similar. We are all very similar. My daughter has alo lost her Dad. The nursery is ready at her home too and the picture i online. The theme is Butterfly Kisses and has a memory spot for her Dad as well. My guess is your Mom has a clue what my shoes are like as I watch a daughter travel this jorney and wait for a grandchild. Oh and Jer 29:11 well another very special verse for us. We too are devout Christians. The Mothers Day note was also beautiful You have a very special place waiting for your child I can tell. Not just in your home, but in your hearts. God Bles you. Glo

Your husband ,on behalf of your daughter! I LOVE that you & he are teaching & rearing your daughter to KNOW & revere God!! I think I needed that tonight......to KNOW that many other little girls AND sons were being adopted, just as we were, into Christ!! Thank you for your faith! And your belief !! I have to tell you that your web site is just beautiful! Elizabeth is so precious. My husband and I are thinking about adopting a baby girl from China and your web site was a great way to see how the process works and in addition to the great pictures. Hopefully, Elizabeth has not taken to Mom as well as Dad. You have a beautiful and blessed family. I have to say I cried when I read the letter John wrote from Elizabeth. Well we are still looking for an agency and getting our finances in order so it may be about another year before we can start our adoption process.
