Today couldn't have been better for our 17th wedding anniversary! It is a tradition to put a lock on the Great Wall and throw away the key to symbolize your forever love. So now we have a lock on the Wall and another thing crossed off our bucket list. The Wall was very steep! It is said in China that whoever climbs the Wall to the top is a Chinese Hero. Well we have 3 Chinese heroes in our family and one Great Wall photographer - Lol. The little tower at the top of our picture is just the first tower. Elijah made it 4 towers up!!! Super Chinese Hero!!! I had heard somewhere that it is harder to come back down the Wall than to climb it. I disagree, but on the way down, I did have the thought that it might be easier just to tuck and roll!

After the Great Wall, we went to a factory that made beautiful vases and other pieces of art. These vases are designed by gluing copper wire in intricate designs and then painted with a lacquer and baked. It takes 6 coats of lacquer to make a smooth finish. Because of the work that goes into the artwork, it is very expensive. A small vase about the size of my hand cost over $400 USD. So I can't imagine the price of the large vase that Brian is standing beside!

Lunch was at the Golden Palace. It is located up above the art factory we visited. The food was delicious! The kids are really getting into eating the Asian food. Whitney even bought her own set of chopsticks today.

Later this evening, we went to a Chinese acrobat show. The costumes were beautiful. The strength, balance, and flexibility of the performers was amazing.

Tonight is our last night in Beijing. We have really acclimated to our surroundings and have even become pros at crossing the streets through the crazy Chinese traffic. We know our way around our section of town and around the mall and the restaurants. Tomorrow we look forward to flying to our daughter's province of Jiangsu. We will be staying in the capital of the province, Nanjing.

One more day closer to Chloe!!!

Good night from Beijing.

Love,
Brian, Erin, Elijah, & Whitney
